#999 God’s Care – Casting Our Care upon God

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

There certainly is no doubt that God cares for us, expressing His attributes in leading, guiding, hearing, and helping us in all ways and situations when we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and faithfully follow Him.  Some times we hit situations that either seem out of our reach or we feel so responsible for messing up we decide we need to handle everything in our own power; therefore, we fail to go to the “Father’s feet” in prayer asking for His direction.  What a mistake!  God is in the caring business, and there is no problem, trouble, or situation that is either too small or too large for Him.  Any care we have needs to be cast at His feet; then, we need to watch Him care for us.

Have you cast all your care upon Him?

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.”   (I Peter 5:7)

#997 God’s Care – He Leads and Guides

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Some of us may have been in the wilderness, desert, or even a dirt road with no compass, map, or GPS; likewise, some of us may have felt stuck in the quicksand of a life going nowhere with no one to tell us what direction to take.  These are lonely and desperate situations to say the least; however, we know from Scripture we are never alone as Christians.  God cares for us not only with His presence but also in leading and guiding us.  He leads and guides us in time of need, but the Psalmist David lets us know that He also leads us in the direction of the precious rest we so desperately need.  If you have ever relaxed in lush green pastures or next to still waters, you understand what the Psalmist is saying and what a blessing it is to rest in God’s care.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, turn yourself over to God’s care and experience the blessing of His leadership and guidance!

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:  He leadeth me beside the still waters.”   (Psalm 23:2)

#949 Joyfulness – Joy in Worship

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In Old Testament times there was often a mixture of secular or social joy with spiritual joy.  While there would be great secular joy and celebration in a great military victory, for instance, there would follow spiritual joy and celebration as they thanked and praised God in the Tabernacle and Temple for the victory.[1]  Old Testament worship was also a joyous experience with worshippers playing and singing with a “joyful noise unto the Lord,”[2] joyfully thanking God, and bringing gifts to God’s house joyfully.  Feasts and Festivals were considered joyous occasions to celebrate and thank God for His guidance and protection, and Jerusalem itself was preferred “above my chief joy.”[3] Mostly, though, the primary joy of those believing in God was God Himself, the same as it should be for us as Christians today.

Is God and worship of God a joy of your life?

“Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy; yea, upon the harp will I praise Thee, O God my God.”   (Psalm 43:4)

#808 Psalm 23 – A Safe Dwelling Place

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we are looking at the final verse, verse six of Psalm 23, we cannot help but notice that David is summarizing the result of the previous five verses as he has recognized how great the Lord is as his Good Shepherd, His saving power, His protection, guidance, and care He is forever providing.  With complete confidence, David has stated that God’s goodness, mercy, and love will be with him all the days of his natural life, with an anticipation of a long life; and now, with even more confidence, he states that he is going to be dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.  This is a statement that has David again recognizing that he along with others who know God personally, have a promise of the Good Shepherd further providing His protection and care with a dwelling place along with His goodness and mercy.

Are you confident of your dwelling place with your Good Shepherd?

“Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house:  they will be still praising Thee.  Selah.”   (Psalm 84:4)

#686 Strength and Guidance

Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Following the previous devotional on the need for prayers of healing, the question was posed as to God’s care and strength for those doing His calling and ministry.  Certainly, the example of Elijah can be applied to this question as well as God’s overall care for him.  Elijah had won a great victory for the Lord over the priests of Baal, ultimately having the people turn to the Lord and the false priests killed, thus causing the threats of Queen Jezebel.  The odds were greatly against him, but the Lord provided the strength he needed to accomplish the ministry and task given him by the Lord; however, it did take a major toll on his body and emotions.  When we are sold out to the Lord and obeying His calling, there will be times when we will become exhausted and possibly ill.  While the Lord’s strength will be with us during those times, we should also listen to God’s voice as to taking care of our bodies and not neglecting them.  Following God’s plan for our lives will produce great results for His kingdom and His care and strength will be with us just as it was with Elijah.

As you serve the Lord, trust Him to provide strength, remembering that your body is His temple, always praying for His guidance throughout your life of service!

“It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.”  (Psalm 18:32)
